Modern Art Donation to Darwin Museum Moscow to help Russian Tiger And Leopard Conservation
On Monday 4th March the British Embassy Ambassdor, Sir Roderic Lyne, will officially present a new work of modern art by British Artist Alexander Adams, to the Russian National Collection, at the Darwin Museum.
The painting was given to the Anglo-Russian tiger and leopard Charity, AMUR, by Alexander Adams to help raise awareness of the problems facing these big cats in Russia.
The British Ambassador launched AMUR at the British Embassy in May 2001. Since then AMUR has received funding from the British Government for specific conservation work in the Russian Far East for the tigers and the leopards, the first time the British Government has directly contributed to tiger and leopard conservation in Russia.
AMUR has also received funding and sponsorship from four major companies active in Russia; Land Rover, BP, Castrol and KPMG.
In addition to the government and corporate donations many artists, both British and Russian, have worked hard to demonstrate their support for conservation of these magnificent big cats. Alexander Adams sent the painting "Fighting Leopards" to Moscow last year to raise awareness of the plight of Russias endangered Amur tigers and leopards.
Alex Adams says "AMUR and I are donating this painting to the State Darwin Museum in the hope that this gift will remind viewers of the beauty and majesty of these endangered Russian big cats. Russia is lucky enough to have these great national treasures in their care. For both Russia and the worlds sake, let us hope that they can be saved from extinction".
Mr Adams went on to say "My work has received a very warm welcome in Russia and for my work to find such a good home in Moscow is a great honour to me".
