Land Rover Vehicle and UK Government Money Donated to Help Russian Tiger and Leopard Conservation
On Monday 4th January at 10.00 the British Embassy will hold a press conference to formally announce, in Russia, British Government funding to protect the Amur Tigers and Leopards.
The press conference which will be held in conjunction with the Anglo-Russian tiger and leopard Charity, AMUR, will also feature the announcement of donations to the charity from of a number of commercial organisations (Land Rover, BP, Castrol and KPMG).
Following the press conference, a short ceremony will be held in the Embassy when Managing Director of Land Rover, Russia, Andy Daniell will hand over a vehicle and cash to AMUR. The vehicle will be used by, the American scientist, Dr Dale Miguelle of the Wildlife Conservation Society (Bronx Zoo in New York) who is currently studying the animals in their native environment. Other sponsors will be announcing their donations to the charity.
Additionally there will be a photo opportunity at the Moscow Zoo in front of the Amur tiger enclosure, featuring all the sponsors and the Land Rover vehicle. This event will take place immediately after the events at the Embassy and the British Embassy will provide transport for any photographers or camera crews who wish to attend the photo opportunity.
In October 2001, the British Government announced that it would be donating £20,000 to the work of the AMUR Charity. Following this announcement Sharon Miller, chairperson of AMUR, has been actively encouraging business leaders in Moscow to follow the British Governments example. The press conference and the announcement of donations from four major international recognised companies is a tribute to those efforts.
